Lake George sits near 7,940 feet in Park County, on the South Platte at the eastern edge of South Park. That basin drains cold air at night, so overnight lows here run brutal even in summer. Big diurnal swings are the enemy of any coating: the substrate expands all day and contracts all night, and a brittle old film cracks and lets go. We schedule around that, not against it.

Most of the building stock is cabins, fishing places, manufactured homes and modest frame houses, much of it wood-clad and stained rather than painted. Air out here is very dry, which pulls moisture out of unsealed wood and opens checks along the grain. Those checks hold water when it does rain or when snow melts off a roof.
